Isn't it all just rhetoric discussing what could have/should have happened? We are now in the midst of the lot that AP has been dealt, and there is no going backwards. I honestly believe that focusing on the redevelopment distracts attention from dealing with the problems that will prevent the redevelopment from ever being a success. In my opinion, our number one priority needs to be ending the crime wave that stigmatizes our city. Also, there is clearly some kind of weird police problem going on here. Last night, I broke the law and took a bike ride on the boardwalk. This was around 7 pm, and there were quite a few other cyclists riding. There was one cop on the boardwalk, and everybody was just cruising on by. I even waved at him and he smiled back. Don't get me wrong, I want to ride on the boardwalk big time, and I'd love to see the hours changed, but posting rules and not enforcing them sends the wrong message, and if something bad happens because the rules aren't being enforced will probably just force the creation of more prohibitive rules. Also, I noticed a group of kids that were completely out of control, yelling "F U" and "F this and that" and making the other people around them look very uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this was a group of African American kids and they were definitely supporting the stereotypes that make people think and say racist things. These kids had absolutely no respect for where they were or the people around them. Where are the parents? Do the parents even have any idea how vile their kids actually are when they are away from home? Maybe it's just a reflection of what goes on at home.As this is happening, we have one police officer casually strolling down the boardwalk. How can we have a successful beach season when the boardwalk area is a free for all? Later on the same bike ride, I noticed a very drunk couple drinking it up in Library Square Park. Oh, and this morning I noticed that they left their garbage behind, which I then cleaned up this morning --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, Allan Peterson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Not quite sure if "I told you so" is appropriate. Can't say yet is the redevelopment has failed since we are only in the beginning stages. Also, sound like your plane was to resurrect buildings and places that did fail.
