Denise and Hinge,
I wasn't going to comment, because Denise has said it all! There
seems to be 2 Asbury Parks, the downtown with it's new stores, new
residents, who have bought into this community, etc. Unless the
children of our community, in spite of where they live, how they live,
or the color of their skin, is the "other" Asbury Park, that no one
recognizes, unless they win at what is another stereotype, of who
Black People, really are.
I have to applaud those, in the community that support our children,
no matter what! Does anyone in this group, think that Blacks and
other poor people, choose to live, on the West Side? They're like
some "other", when it comes to this group and on the national level.
Katrina and Rita, pulled the covers, off a long festering problem,
that in spite of civil rights, some Blacks have made it and many, were
just left behind! Educationally with inferior schools, inferior
housing and lack of job opportunites and training. All ethnic groups
form coalitions with people of like minds, which is why you have
gangs, drugs and Black on Black crimes.
When Italians immigrated to this country, they were discriminated
against, due to language and religion. The same goes for the Irish,
Chinese tongs, etc. Drugs, are imported into this country by "mules",
traveling, such as humans trafficking, in autos imported and by
factions of the government. Remember Hasenfus, crashing in Arkansas?
He was a courier for the CIA, under Reagan, which the government
hushed up, quickly. Drugs are trafficked, into the Black community,
to feed the Prison Industrial Complex, a form of genocide, where over
2 million people of color are incarcerated, the most of any nation, in
the world. If this is a land of plenty, why are so many Blacks, in
jail? Since 1964, the number of Blacks increased, due to keeping
Blacks off voter rolls, out of decent schools and housing.
No one cares to have a dialogue on race and it's very evident here!
It's a bummer, ain't it? Makes you look at yourself! Would there be
gangs in Holmdel or Deal, if conditions were the same as here? I
doubt it, yet there are more drugs on Wall St., than Springwood Ave.
Now it seems like a rite of passage for Black youth in general, to
spend time in jail, instead of school, where their inquisitive young
minds, should be nurtured. I never thought Black athletes, should be
"role models", for me or my children! Role models, begin at home!
It's not just a Black problem, it's a National problem! You've had a
450 year head start, due to slavery and Jim Crow! Can we catch up? I
doubt it! Okay, I'm finished.
