It would be a radical step forward if there were a businss retention effort to
help keep these entrepreneurs in  Asbury Park.

After all, LaPlaca started out in the city's "business incubator", the
former Woolworth building.

So did the fellow who designed that beautiful glass who moved "up" to Cookman
Avenue frontage in the Steinbach building. and then out this May after a
landlord dispute.

I'm surprised there aren't realtors/landlords with empty retail space stepping
forward trying to keep businesses who've built up their visibility and a
cliente
base of consumers who will come to Asbury Park.

What are they afraid of?

It's easier to count cups (well almost) or calculate a liquor profit -
sometimes.

Lots of old time leases and landlords took a base rent PLUS a share of the
profit.

The problem today - the internet. If a retailer sticks a computer in there
store
and someone buys from the retailers website... well then the sale is not rang
up
in the actual store. Don't think this scenario isn't real world - it is.

So if the landlord charged $5,000 per month plus 5% of sales over $x per month
-
the landlord gets cut out.

They had great stuff and nice to see they are moving to Point.
