So there is no way with asp to make the client start downloading the pdf until he asks
for it.

Like putting out a forest fire with a garden hose
Unfortunately you cant touch the client's box to update cache until the file (pdf)
is completely downloaded from the webserver
  Sidebar:
1 1/2 years ago I worked for a company that re-architected their browser based app
to a desktop program
The reason for this was some of their clients still had dialup and complained that
they waited too long to retrieve records
  The cost:
The browser app was free..the desktop application was 5,000/pop not including 60/hr
tech support for anything that went wrong
If you throw big numbers at your clients for downgrading (better known as going the
wrong way) you'll be amazed at how fast they wise up to an extra 5.00/month to go to
DSL or cable modem.
  Good Luck,
  Martin

My Server is hooked up to gigabyte high speed connection. It is some of my
customers who are running older OS and still on dialup. What I was thinking is if I
could force the download of the PDF into there cache once it is created. It would
reduce there wait time is all. Some of the PDF forms they will be downloading or
viewing in there browsers(If they have those capabilities) are about 150 kb in size.
On high speed connections no big deal this is only a few second wait but for my dialup
customers 150kb is a big download. The average 56k modem downloads at 4.5 kbs a second
or slower.

PS (I know I cant wait for those dinosaurs to move into the present but because
they are not I have to deal with them as well.)

If you're speaking of faster download with dialup..in that case I'm certain you
already know the answer
      Good Luck,

I Don't quite understand what your trying to say here Martin.
I am running a 2003 web server I can do whatever i need to it.
When people logon to this site from the web not internal network is when i
want client to have the pdf's forced into there cache not my server. The PDF's and
FDF's are stored in a temp folder on my server till user action forces them to be
destroyed. Everytime a pdf and fdf are created the previous ones are destroyed. User
actions are controled so that they do not end up with options to download unavailable
pdfs. Any pdfs left laying around are destroyed on session end. Does that make it a
little easyer for you to help me.
This server is dedicated to making this website run. It is pretty fast. The
reason for wanting to speed up pdf delivery is for dial customers. On high speed
connections it is quick enough.

            Hi all

I have created on the fly pdf file using the fdf toolkit from adobe.
I am wondering if there is a way to force the download of these pdf's so
when a user clicks the download button it doesn't take as long to show them.

Basically what i am doing is when a user submits a form it creates an fdf
file and also a pdf file named by a certain field on the form. When the use clicks the
save form button it tells the fdf file to load its info into the pdf file. The submit
page creates the file then refreshes the form and gives the user the extra buttons to
dload the form in pdf format .

What i am hoping for it some kind of code that can launch the fdf file and
force the pdf file to load in cache that way the pdf will load quicker. If this is
possible I would really like to know how this works and anyhelp would be really
awsome. Thanks in advance for any of your help in this matter.
