The old chicken or the egg question, isn't it?

But not really.

Without reforms, what we get is what we have. And surely it will only get worse, as we have seen over the last quarter century, and just like it was predicted
by thoughtful observers.

That is why.

Just as the quality of the political class reflects

In either case, there are the same self-seeking
actions, the lack of morals and the same perversions.
I guess that has been documented well enough on either
side.

Come to think of it, neither is a choice!

And if indeed the constituencies make their choices
right, the system would work. Any system. So why
change it?

Unfortunately Mridul, such a state of mind would not
 take anyone anywhere.

Politicians only reflect their constituencies. If
 the constituents
are either apathetic or are ill-informed then
 nothing would change.
To make matters worse, the system promotes and
 rewards wrong-doers
and non-performers. The able and the wise cannot get
 elected. The
system does not make any provisions to bring on
 board those who are
 capable and ethical.

So, those who know better, must get involved, and
 fight to change the
system so that the able and the ethical can get
 elected, without
selling their souls to vested interests.
