are with one group of discredited power brokers (the
liberators) about how they could share or take power
from another group (the local political class)?





*** The question of force comes into the picture when the institutions of democracy fail to perform. In this instance Indian democracy could not, peacefully, help usher in the required reforms and changes.


But we can look at Ukraine right now. There the party in power realized that
if they did not give into reform demands and attempted either to stonewall or stifle the demands of the people by brute force ( as India did to Assam twenty five years ago), then violence-- civil war--was sure to break-out, with even outside powers pitching in, such as western European powers or even the USA and thus turning into a confrontation with Russia as well. That could have caused a huge conflict that no one was looking for.
