To our befuddled compatriots who are disconsolate over the meager number of NGOs in Assam, and thus the lack of grease to lubricate the wheels of desi demokrasy, here is a source:

http://www.indianngos.com/issue/rural/ngos.htm

Pick the subject on the left, then click on the state, then open the district wise pages to get the names of existing NGOs.

How many in Assam? I don't have the time to find out. Needless to say, far too many is what it seems like from a couple of districts I opened on just one subject.

How about the rest of India?

Same story.
