To the best of my knowledge, the Gauhati high court did render a verdict in 1989 which led to compensation being paid to the next of kin of a little girl who had died after falling into an open manhole in Machkhowa.It seems to me that the GMC has not learnt any lessons about its responsibility towards the public of the city.
