KJD-da,
Do you mean that we do not prosecute any govt official at all --
*** I suspect they do. But what happens at the end? Show me one
high official found guilty and punished, and I will sing a different
tune.
then why prosecute that poor bastard in the roadside slum for a small theft
*** And that goes on all the time In Assamese there is a proverb,
literally translated it goes like" The elephant thief walks away
freedom, while the brinjal thief gets caught."
--when govt officials are looting millions of govt money.
*** And that is why some of us realize that the system is faulty,
it does not work. The poor sidewalk vendor gets prosecuted while the
IAS Babu or the elected MLA steals millions and remain the pillars of
society.
Then the courts should be closed --- for a very long time -till these systemic reforms have been achieved.
*** Then lend your voice to hose who are seeking just that. Stand
up and be counted for what you believe in.

Umesh,
Easier said than done.We donot live in a make-believe world. How many of them do you think will give up their job as a result of the sheer force of their will and set up tea stall in order to support their families? I dont see too many, practically speaking.
Greater prosecution of corrupt officials, while necessary, will remain ineffective in tackling the magnitude of the problem in the absence of systematic reform.A better and long-term results could be achieved,if efforts are directed towards crafting a more responsive system than pursuing a few high-profile cases.
