Of course you are correct and I was aware that it was a hack but I had  
already triple checked the firewalls and the SMTP logs showed the  
connections coming from 127.0.0.1 which does not leave a lot to go on.  
As it was only one spammer that seemed to be getting through this way  
I was not going to waste more than a few hours on it.

Trevor, are you still running XMail or have you moved on? If you had  
used my HowTo in the past then the thing we have in common is XMail so  
the fault could be there. Have you upgraded to 1.26? I'm happy to  
share my perl script with you as it definitely fixed the problem for me.
