I didn't say 'wrong person'...

You can look at the old BSD vacation script for an excellent reference 
for what a vacation auto-responder should (and more importantly, should 
*not*) reply to... but essentially it is:

1. Don't respond to:

bulk/list mail
null senders
anything tagged as spam

2. Don't respond to the same person more than once in x days (the 
'recommended' value is 7 days, but I prefer three, you may prefer one)...

3. Reply only to the envelope sender

I may have missed some, but thats the gist of it...
