My guess is that you need a SMTP server installed on your ASSP server that can route traffic back to your MTA (instead of letting it go to your ISP because your ISP isn't going to know what to do with your made-up domain name). You would make this smtp server your relay and your smtp.isp.com would be the relay of your SMTP server.
