As an regular 2600 reader and mad scientist I can tell you some bad
news. There are abundant methods of altering or affecting your ANI on
a call. In a perfect world an SS7 link would suffice but other holes
do exist. Understand the market, not the technology, then you will
see.

Most billing isn't done via ani on the pstn but the btn or billing
telephone number which can be done separate from ani.

it is my understanding to spoof any you would need an ss7 link. However it
is also my understanding that no one spoofs ani as it messes with billing
etc. I am sure you would be shut down quickly.

I am afraid of why you want to do this, I am also afraid of what the
FCC will do to curb this in the future by altering switching on copper
and fiber connections.

As a BIZ list discussion, what can the FCC do to curb Caller ID and
other spoofing, many of us in the business know how insecure and
unreliable the system currently is. Will circuit ID lookups attach an
ANI in the future and how long could this tie up new and upgrade
installations...

There are methods of altering/affecting the billing ID. None easy and
most require social engineering.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I have a twist.

I currently answer almost 60-80 800 numbers from Global Crossing (GBX)
that arrive on 7 TDM T1's.

I'm looking for some options to 'host' these 800's and have the call be
presented via SIP.
I like the keep control of these numbers and not 'Port' them somewhere
if possible.
I'd be willing to relocate these T1's to the 'host' but what I was
hoping for is to
find a Carrier that could deliver these calls directly using a company
such as Qwest or GBX,
thus removing the 'middle man'.

And frankly, it's hard to trust many of the 800 voip Providers I find on
the net. Can anyone point me to a
company that you'd trust that could accomplish my goals?

Bart

Bret

Correct, what I am discussing is systems which alter the BTN, ANI and
CallerID during a call switch which could be done via some social
engineering calls or via automated methods. Please refer to the many
educational articles in the 2600 magazine.

This already happens to some extent, some carriers are lazy and don't wanna
pull the info but there is a btn which identifies 1 or more anis in a normal
network. When you have a line you can send any ani on this btn is still
available during call setup and can be logged with the call along with the
carrier that sent the call. This may be a chain log depending on a few
factors, ie the terminating lec may only know the ixc that sent it to them,
the ixc knows the originating lec, and the originating lec knows the
customer
