The Open USB FXS project is exactly what you want. It seems to be

That does indeed seem to be the case. I found some info on Open USB FXS - a circuit board template and BOM :) Probably a bit closer to the electronics than I really wanted to be, and they don't sell the kit anymore. Too bad.

Well if anyone runs across an asterisk-channel-supported USB FXS device, please let me know. An ATA that does OpenVPN would be just as welcome. If Xorcom would come out with a 1 or 2 port FXS device I would be all set! How about it Tzafrir?
