Nifty! Love this Raspberry Pi. I keep thinking of new things I want to
do with it. If I could only clone myself. I have a "video doorbell"
project at the top of the list, if I don't find a USB FXS device :)
The Raspberry Pi has some problems with USB cameras and other USB video
capture devices (due to the USB host controller).
Hopefully the problems will be solved soon, but until then it is
probably not the ideal device for that purpose.

I have heard that. In fact originally I started looking at this
differently - that I could couple a SLIC design with the Raspberry Pi to
make an FXS ATA, using the Pi's audio jack and the GPIO, with some kind
of mic... I found this:
https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rowetel.com%2Fdownloads%2Fslic_4281219.pdf
An old (expired!) patent for a SLIC with discrete components... might be
a fun project...
I got talked into looking for a USB based solution by a friend, which
seemed like an easy way out. Until I discovered that it just doesn't
exist :)
