I did the same thing with my iaxy :) using the laptop as the gateway for it
(roaming in a car hunting for open wireless and a trusty power converter to
power the iaxy :)=uber geek cell phone lol). It works great providing you have
1) a good connection and 2) low latency, but if you think your not
always going
to be on the mintiest of networks and are going to be far from your server. A
sip device would be way more recommended as some sip devices can handle more
latency abuse.

Quoting Chad Osmond <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
I have to connect an analog line on our Polycom gear (Video and old
Audio stations) up to our Asterisk System, I'd like to use something
that others have had good success with.
Any recommendations, I need 1 port, so that means Digium's IAXy,
Grandstream ATA-X86's and the Sipturas.
I am heading towards the IAXy because of the Native IAX that it
provides. Also, I think it would be easier to pass data to a notebook
that is sharing it's wireless connection to the internet when traveling.
Thanks,
Chad
