Hey Chad,

Do you need an actual telephone? or you just want a portable extension?

What I use is the DIAX softphone with a bluetooth head set which is paired to my laptops BT dongle. Works great! Used to use a Plantronics USB headset, it was clearer but more of a pain to cart around. I always use it while on the road. So while sitting at the airport just pop onto the WiFi and bingo, I can pick up my inbound calls or make outbound ones. Freaks some people out when they call your office knowing your traveling hoping to just leave voicemail and you answer the call.

I just downloaded and am testing the IdeFiskIAX softphone, seems pretty good also, nicer GUI then DIAX! Both of these apps are less then a meg in size.

Which ever way, IAX is the way to go since you just don't know what firewall your dealing with. Downside to these 2 free apps though is no G729, but they both have 711, GSM, Speex and iLBC. But the price is right.

My 2 cents.

Mike

I have to connect an analog line on our Polycom gear (Video and old

that others have had good success with.

Any recommendations, I need 1 port, so that means Digium's IAXy,
Grandstream ATA-X86's and the Sipturas.

I am heading towards the IAXy because of the Native IAX that it
provides. Also, I think it would be easier to pass data to a notebook
that is sharing it's wireless connection to the internet when traveling.

Thanks,

Chad
