Although I have never used them, one interesting option is to use a RIM Blackberry 7270 (http://www.blackberry.com/products/blackberry7200/blackberry7270.shtml). This supports SIP and 802.11b and the cool feature is that the user can get email on it, browse the web, schedule appointments, etc if used with the BB Enterprise Server.
