 Dave,

I'm not sure how all phones are calculating their DST, but typically you
have their ntp client pointed to a ntpd server on your network and they
receive the servers UTC & local time and the local time is what the phone
should display. You should be able to also control this via your dhcp server
using the ntp-servers option, so by having a lease time of say 8 hours, your
phone should be updated at least once during the night, and worst case would
not get updated until 10 am ( since DST changes at 2am

That's an interesting point about the NTP server transmitting UTC _and_
Local Time. It will be interesting to see if the phones use the local or
UTC time. In this case you hope it's local but I can imagine that would be
frustrating if I had phones in Vancouver and Toronto sharing an NTP server.

I think we'd all be interested in hearing the outcome of any testing that
people might be doing. Also, if you're doing this reactively, as Ian is,
consider posting as you fix things so the rest of us know what to look out
for.

Question: Does DHCP lease time really dictate NTP polling frequency?
