| Does anyone know any wireless devices (PDA) running cuLinux?
|
| Wonder if any big players have anything ready yet? Would be cool if I
| can install a soft phone and other gegits on there.

Why uClinux in particular?

There are a lot of linux distros around. I think that several are now
focusing on being suitable for embedding in phones. I don't really
know the lay of the land here.

uClinux originated in Toronto as a port to the Palm PDA and then
radiated. Its original techincal innovation was not needing an MMU. I
understand that now it can be configured to use an MMU.

I really like MMUs. They enforce memory isolation between processes.
Most modern embedded processors suitable for Linux now have MMUs. It
may be the case that an ARM MMU causes unacceptable task switching
overhead for certain applications. Summary: I hope that the unique
technical feature of uClinux is not used.

uClinux is a commercial venture. I think that its ownership changed a
few times in the .com boom and bust. The current owner might be
Arcturus Networks inc.

My impression of the Linux/telephony world is that there are a few
players that are jockeying to own the field. They don't all get "open
source", at least as I understand it.

Paul Wouters probably knows the players in a useful way. He has
posted a couple of relevant messages to this list. He's going to give
a talk at TASK on February 28.
