I know that Rogers provides local service here in Calgary, which is typically cheaper than the incumbent Telus, not sure if they do that in Toronto though.

Rogers took over Sprint who provided my original lines.

OK, so I'm out of the loop. Apparently Group Telecom is now owned by
Bell!

Allstream says 40/mth and there is no install. That still hurts though.

Quoting Leif Madsen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

So I just called Bell. I currently have naked DSL service here at my
condo, but I've been starting to use my cell phone for testing, and
getting $300 a month bills is really starting to irritate me. So I
thought, "Hey, just activate that phone line in your living room and
save the money on your cell bill". Great idea I thought... until I
called Bell.

$55 activation fee + $45 a month for the most basic tone service.

I remember when the phone line was around $20-$25 a month when I ran
a
BBS!!! Holy crap... $45 a month for a phone line?! I'm not that old
either... (26 to be exact... Jim will tell you I'm around 62 though).

Soooo. I'm in downtown Toronto (across from Fort York near Exhibition
to be exact). Is there any other companies that can provide tone on
the line for me? I just need to be able to call local.

Thoughts/Suggestions?

(Obviously I have VoIP here, but the point is to be able to test from
a landline for the ITSP I work for :))

Thanks!
