A couple of months ago I did a servey of Asterisk GUI's. Most use Freepbx for PBX management and combine these with Asterisk packages for system admin, extension display and other useful things. If you just want a straight PBX GUI then you should download Freepbx. For business use I personally like Elastix, although Trixbox CE is fine if you don't mind the "phone home" that comes with this release. Whatever you choose you will download an ISO image and burn it on to a CD.
Once you have a CD, you install Linux + Asterisk and Freepbx in one shot (in about 20 minutes) If all goes well (and it usually does) the install will indicate an IP address where you can access the GUI. Just crank up your Firefox and away you go. Start by configuring your first extension i.e. 200 with Vmail You can check the extension by dialing yourself (200) which surprisingly enough will be "busy" and go to vmail. Leave yourself a message and then dial *97 and enter your password ...you will hear your message. Next, configure your VoIP trunk ( I like to use Unlimitel IAX trunks because they go through firewalls like a hot knife through butter) If you want to access your system remotely or you want external extensions and you don't have a fixed IP address you will need to set up a dynamic domain name, this is a piece of cake if you have a recent Linksys router with DYNDNS configuration. There is lots more but that's the fun Open Source software. Happy Trails... I'm guessing it's about 2 months ago now. Maybe that will help. > > Dave > > On Jan 30, 2008 1:01 PM, Elliott Jeyaseelan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >> Can anyone recommend a gui for asterisk beyond the trixbox or asterisknow >> type of setup....handling 1 or 2 pri and few tens of extensions etc >> >> >> >> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To >> unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> >> > Henry L.
