Thanks for your comments. On checking with Cogeco, they use an ATA integrated into their cable modem, but non of their tech guys have any idea if it's SIP or what. It's a "black box" that you just plug an analog phoneset into and it auto configures somehow. I'm thinking that it'd be easier to just ignore their "home phone" and plug an ATA (or SIP phone) of my own into the router and let it register with my asterisk server.
