Interesting, IMHO the long latency could be tuned to make the throughput
much greater.
If you are using a Windows O/S you can change the TCPip settings in the
registry.
I use the  free "TCPOptimizer" tuned for a latency of 140 ms and I am now
getting cable
broadband speeds of 24.5 Mbs on some fast servers in the UK.
