If this is Asterisk 1.4.x from say Trixbox then forget about it I would say. 
Not worth the headache and the hassle. If this is from Elastix again forget 
about it. 


If you have it on Piaf then there is some good chance you can upgrade without 
breaking *much*. That is because Piaf compiles from source in the 
/usr/src/asterisk-* directory and all the source files are available to you and 
you can use it to re-install or download upgrades and compile again. But even 
with Piaf there is no one liner out there that says how to upgrade it. So you 
have to download source/compile and install it. 


And with the Incredible PBX and Orgasmatron and the Virtual one and the Vmware 
version............various versions of Piaf it's really a headache as well to 
know what works how but it's the only *better* product out there out of Elastix 
and Trixbox. 


With Elast-bloatware even upgrading FreePBX breaks lots of things and 
Tricks-ware is not much different either.
