I have a similar configuration. I haven't had time to test the zap channels yet, but with wanrouter running I can make and receive a sip -> IAX call with no issues.

It sounds like bad packet loss. I was able to easily recreate this scenario with the following setup: TEST AaH w/ pri -> port2 of Sangoma (AStlinux) AStlinux port 1 T1 -> a 3com t1 router T1 router on my Lan -> MY AaH I set up an IAX2 channel between them. When I place a call between the 2 PBXs I hear the bad sound from MY AaH, even when I'm just listening to my voice mail. So I remove the T1 from the equation and change the EXTIF on the AStlinux box so it has a local address on my LAN. I adjust the host entry in the iax.conf file on My AaH and can make calls again. With this new set up, calls sound very clear... I'm speculating that there's a problem with the wanpipe-beta1-2.3.4 drivers in the distro.
