Thanks, that narrows it down.  Another question, can you mount your CF card on 
a PC/Mac ?  It should be a FAT16 volume with an "os" directory.  If you can't 
mount it then you may have a problem with dd'ing the image to the CF or USB 
drive.  Make sure you are dd'ing the "astlinux-1.0-5256-asterisk-1.8.7.1.img" 
file, not the "astlinux-1.0-5256-asterisk-1.8.7.1.img.gz" file.

I have very similar system, (Atom N525) arriving in a few days, so I can test 
with you.

It appears your CF card reader is implemented as a USB device (/dev/sdc).  I'm 
confident we can get this working with AstLinux 1.0.
