A newly released hardware description and configuration has been added to the
AstLinux documentation:

Qotom Q190G4N-S07 Celeron J1900 Fanless Appliance
https://doc.astlinux-project.org/userdoc:board_qotom_q190g4n-s07

I personally purchased a barebone Q190G4N-S07 via Amazon direct from Qotom in
Hong Kong:

Barebone 4 Lan J1900 Router Qotom-Q190G4N-S07 ...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N645UJB/

Or also available worldwide via AliExpress:

firewall Multi-function router

The PC Engines APU2 runs AstLinux quite well, and offers a good comparison with
this Qotom. The Qotom and PC Engines APU2 are approximately the same price for
me ...

Qotom-Q190G4N-S07 = $ 117.00 + $ 33.64 shipping (USD)
(2 GB RAM $ 15-20 and mSATA SSD extra)

APU2c2 + case + power = $ 120.40 + $ 30.50 shipping (USD)
(mSATA SSD extra)

The Q190G4N-S07 is about 2x the performance of the APU2, essentially same power
consumption, a first-class machined aluminum black case (idles 15 deg.C cooler)
vs. the APU2 sheet metal case, one extra NIC. Additionally, the Qotom does not
require any tedious assembly, simply add 4 rubber feet, RAM and mSATA SSD by
removing 4 screws.

The APU2 has AES-NI support and soldered 2 GB RAM (pro and con since it is not
changeable), has a serial port and a piezo buzzer, the Qotom has neither. The
Qotom has a VGA console port.

Physically the Qotom occupies only 75 % of the table area vs. the APU2, but is
quite heavy at 830 grams (1.8 lbs) per it's substantial aluminum case.

I placed my order on a Friday, it shipped on the following Monday and I signed
for the package Wednesday noon. Quite amazing !

Note: Shipped via DHL which required a signature on delivery.

Total system power at idle is only 5 Watts without a VGA connection. The case
is only barely warm to the touch. The CPU temperature is around 38-40 deg.C at
room temperature and idle.

I performed a standard iperf test (client-iperf -> LAN-qotom-WAN ->
server-iperf), the qotom will route at Gb line speed (912 Mbps) at 90% idle
(via top).

The OpenVPN test took 37.6 seconds, with a measured maximum OpenVPN throughput
of 125 Mbps.

--cipher aes-256-cbc

The BIOS defaults to first boot off a USB drive, so install an mSATA SSD, boot
with a USB flash drive containing the bootable AstLinux Install ISO - Generic
x86-64bit (Video Console), then interacting via the VGA console install to the
mSATA SSD.

Clearly there is no one best AstLinux hardware solution, but in my limited
testing, the Qotom Q190G4N-S07 is a great fit for AstLinux.

The Qotom Q190G4N-S07 has run solidly for a few days, further updates as needed.
