Dear Robin,
I personally like the other Sheraton (downtown) better, but the
problem was not whether they are responsible for our luggage--I actually
think they are--but they wouldn't let us examine it to help assure the right
luggage was pulled for the correct trip.
The staff has been more than helpful in assisting us locate and get
our luggage back to us; in fact, mine is back--both the piece I don't really
feel responsible for--and the backpack I should have carried with me outside
when we stepped out because the station in Kirkwood was rather stuffy.
What do you suggest when you need to check out on time, and meeting
still are happening; I can't see all that luggage in a conference room?
I missed the shower gel some time but did notice the rubber band but
wasn't aware of which product the rubber band was affixed to, but I do
appreciate the gesture.
I know nothing of people being in the Club Lounge who aren't
supposed to be there since I'm not a Board member and would not think of
asking to go there unless I was a Board member or Club member.

There are always a few problems with any hotel. Overall this was one of the
nicest hotels I have stayed in in the St Louis area. They just completed a
major renovation. Yes the food in the hotel was expensive but that is true
of any hotel. The advantage of being at Westport was there were plenty of
other food options and many without crossing any streets. Yes some times
you do have housekeeping staff miss a room or two but you can call for
service as I have often done. Even on a travel agent fam trip
(familiarization trip) one year with my company. They forgot to clean and
make up my room. The staff was quite accommodating. There were some things
they did that got no recognition and should have. I doubt most people knew
of noticed the toiletries in your rooms were marked. Mark discovered this
in our room and then we had other people check and except for those who did
not get the next new ones the next day most people I believe had this and
may simply not have known. The shower gel was in the soap dish on the back
wall of the shower. The shampoo had no marking. The conditioner had a small
rubber band around it. The lotion had a small piece of tape. When we used
ours the first night Mark found it. We did not use it all but threw the rest
away and again when we got they new ones the next day they were marked the
same. Someone took a lot of care to do this. Even if they did not get
everyone they should be commended for the effort. Also there was a small
card on your bed most of you did not know about but if you declined
housekeeping service you could get a $5 dining credit or 500 starwood points
at the end of the weekend. Yes I know before anyone says so it was not
accessible but the hotel is not entirely responsible for not telling you.
The committee could have told you if the hotel told them or surely someone
with someone on the board or host committee had someone with enough sight to
read this. It was not easy to read, yellow on black however I could read
it. The nice perk was if you were a starwood preffered member or paid $10 a
night extra you could get access to the club level lounge. They served
complimentary breakfast and appetizers in the evening. I noticed all the
board members had access and many others as well as some who were let in by
others. My gripe which someone else has as well was the convention
committee had braille menus provided but no large print. The menus were
difficult to read for those of us with low vision. As for luggage being
lost etc. lets be honest it happens. Anytime anyone else is holding your
luggage it is a chance you take. The truth is the hotel is not liable for
loss or damage but in most cases as a customer service issue they will do
something for you. I am sure I could find a bad thing or two we always can
but I was quite impressed and for someone who worked in travel and who
honestly did not think St Louis had a single decent hotel I was impressed.
Robyn
Never underestimate yourself. You are a special person and there is no one
