FWIW, for clarity I would favour:

'... has a "src" attribute (and is thus itself empty).'

The 'itself' I feel allows the 'empty' assertion to govern
atom:content, not the src attribute, without ambiguity.

(Overall I'm neutral on this discussion, but I'd like the wording
clear whatever is chosen :-)
