I *think* yes, and I have done such a similar transition (FC6 ->
RHEL5) with apt. But ...

... as usual when you least expect it problems will show up and spoil
the small downtime. I would at least make sure that everything is
backed up and that if it takes longer than a couple of hours that you
do have an emergency F8 DVD at hand to quickly restore the system to
have it available at evening hours. Especially if you are sharing the
myth system with a better half ;)
