I think users of other than English should be able to understand what the purpose of the log feature is, and be able to submit the log, even if they cannot fully understand its contents. Once it is decided what is cruft and what isn't, it might be reasonable to translate the non-technical part of messages. For example (assuming not cruft): "Loading avutil from 'J:\Program Files (x86)\FFmpegForAudacity\ avutil-50.dll'." possibly should be "Chargement avutil de 'J:\Program Files (x86)\FFmpegForAudacity\ avutil-50.dll'." in French (or whatever a good translation is). Note we have a patch waiting for a new logger class (to fix an obscure crash on Mac): http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337 which would affect this discussion. I strongly prefer buttons rather than the log menu, and at least some of the buttons would then get automatically translated by widgets. Also there was a bug (at least) in the version of the patch that had buttons instead of a menu: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337#c25 . I've noted the issue in "Chain". However except for a policy question (such as what gets translated and what doesn't) I'd rather translation bugs get sent to [email protected] (as indeed Alexandre has just posted another such issue there).
