I can live with a reasonably short news announcement. "New features" would be in Wiki Proposals: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Category:Proposal or in some cases in bugzilla enhancements if I or someone felt special merit in them and/or had a patch: http://tinyurl.com/cnflpew . I tested Benjamin's patch for "Point labels should be retainable or removable when deleting a selection abutting a label" a while ago: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466 . I still prefer a solution of retaining the label if Sync-Lock is on but the label track not selected (because this is more easily toggled than a preference) but I think this patch would be OK if consensus is for a preference (labels not retained by default). I have not compiled the patch recently. I did wonder if the description wording could be made more meaningful. I'll post there if I have anything else to say.
