A slight correction. The way I understand it, it's the 64-bit processors that don't support 16-bit code, so Microsoft did what they had to do. From what I understand, if you have a 64-bit CPU, you can't boot using an old DOS floppy, and that's assuming you can still find a floppy drive somewhere.
