Re: braillemone a pokemon port for visually impaired players

@Rachel, nice thinking on the legal point. though myself I'd not particularly count pokemon games as accessible, not just because of missing out story and exploration, but because of time and effort needed for a blind player using faqs for menue memorization, knowing all the pokemone's attacks (yes the pokemon identify themselves by sound but not the name, damage etc of their attack), and so on.

This all apart from atmosphere missing.

The subscription sounds a nice idea when you put it in terms of a regular donation system, rather than a straight out subscription payment.

I'll look forward to trying this.

Regarding the rom, one method I've seen used to skirt around legal issues in the past is either to have a disclaimer with the package stating that "if you find a copy of this file please remove it since you legally can't use it" (the pc port of the Apple rpg Eamon series, eamon deluxe does this in order to redistribute dos basic), or perhaps to have someone separately host the appropriate file with a similar disclaimer, perhaps on a file sharing service, I once downloaded a great version of prince of persia (not playable from a blindness perspective but nice with limited vision), that did this.

At least that way you could insure that people are all working from the same file, since manifestly there are various different roms available and it'd be a shame to get the wrong thing.

On an unrelated note, would you considder writing some basic pokemon faqs for those unfamiliar with the game and battle system? since obviously not everyone who will be playing this has extensive pokemon experience, and it'd be nice to get some new players, indeed myself, most of my practical experience has been from the cartoon series (brock and team rocket are both awsome), so I'd appreciate at least some instructions.

While I know this might be a little premature, I have noticed this problem with a couple of brouser based pokemon ports, even though they don't tend to include all the rules or have complex mechanics.
