Re: Why is jaws 13.0 a piece of shit?

I realise there's a lot of hate for JAWS, and without wishing to offend any NVDA fans, but can you honestly name a screen reader that covers all the student bases quite as well as JAWS? Sure, if you're enough of a geek, but we're talking ordinary people and their good experience with crap like Microshaft Word and whatnot is paramount. So perhaps I can understand the choice. Even I, a devout Window-Eyes user, ended up using JFW at uni.

I used Abbyy FineReader for a long time and liked it. Sure, it's no Kurzweil or OpenBook when it comes down to smooth reading while you scan, but it does work and produces fantastic results, and offers much more professional-grade flexibility with far less bloat. However, at home, I just use a dedicated scanner appliance because that's all I really need.
