Hmm, I read through the spec's for the B2G a bit more thoroughly, seems they use a Metec refreshable braille display, which is from a 3rd party manufacturer that uses standard PiezoElectric Actuators, no price listed of course. Which basically means its no different than any other braille display on the market, with the possible exception that it can be used as a mobile device. I find that a little misleading since they have a flexible braille display smack on their front page, though maybe that was through their "touch of Genius Prize"? I seems whatever talk there's been EAP braille display tech likely never left Japanese Universities. Maybe due to patent issues? Who knows. Guess Bitlab's tactile tablets the best bet here.
As for cost per dot, going by the price of the PiezoElectric Actuators, assuming their 25 cents a piece, a dollar per dot doesn't sound unreasonable considering the costs of molded plastic, circuits, and mounting brackets. Th ats covering just the base materials though, manufacturer's may jack the price to include labor, machine setup, shipping, etc. Along with whatever other markup they have in mind.
