This kind of strategy is now quite popular thanks to things like Steam Early access (for those unaware it's basically a section of Steam where developers put up pre-release, alpha/beta games for purchase). Quite often these games cost less while in this stage and the price later goes up when development is finished. Then there's crowd funding where there's more than enough people willing to pay more than the final price to get access to early testing, to get a poster or some other perk.
Personally, I'm OK with the price of games being smaller, then going up later as development progresses, but only if this is clearly stated. So if a game has been out for a while as a stable release, then a month or more/less time later the developer suddenly raises the price without warning, I think that's a jerk move and shouldn't happen.
