Re: The oddity of "Reverse Sales"

There are a number of interesting business models that have cropped up over the past few years, Pay What You Want, Micro Transactions, DLC, etc.  Pay What You Want seems like a fair model to go by, but I haven't see many sales statistics to tell if its economically viable long term. Then again Dwarf Fortress is still going strong on donations every month.

There's also been quite a bit of discussion about the morality and ethics of Micro Transactions in mobile game development, ranging from the abuse of artificial time sinks to pressure players in to paying for faster progress or to play more frequently, payments for random item bundles that are suspiciously close to gam bling, and Pay to Win models, which are apparently quite common in the China mobile market from what I hear.

The scaling price of Greenlight games is also pretty interesting, as it makes sense that a game would become more expensive as it develops more content before release. It really il lustrates the financial lifecycles content can go through from development to post release, I would think that a games viability could be extended with remastered editions like the new HD remastered Homeworld. I guess the next step these days would be VR remastering. Bundles aren't entirely uncommon either, the Indie Humble Bundle is a regular thing, and you usually find bundle sales of certain titles during Steam sales, sometimes on Origin too but there not usually front and center.
