Re: A Demo of Danny's working FPS
Greetings all. So upon looking at the game, i'm not entirely happy with the way the ship system works. To begin let me explain how it works. When you take control in manual pilot, the view switches from that of the ships interior to the outside exterior, so that you can here other vessels and objects around you. S and W instead of adjusting speed adjust engine power while E initiates a landing on any object. The problem is, while the system is fine for ships that have a max speed of 100, traveling at speeds any faster makes it extremely difficult to consantrate on where your going, even when i've provided a better distance calculation so that you don't need to be right on top of an object. I was thinking the following replacement system. For larger ships or shuttles that can go above speed 100, we restore the old dmnb console system complete with launching and landing, however you'd control the course by entering a heading since I know how to do it properly now and entering a desired speed. You could still have manual control even over landings and launching, but it'd be more entering commands into a computer sort of deal. Then for smaller repair shuttles, we'd keep the current manual pilot system. What do you guys think of this? Oh, and just so you know, if the newer system got implemented for bigger ships, autopilot would defanatly be a thing, and weapons would still be manually controled, I had an idea of an aiming system like in most space invaders, where you'd need to rely on the pilot while you used the left and right aeros or joystick to aim and used space to fire.
