Re: Latency issue when monitoring in reaper
Fair reasoning I would say. While I do have a desktop that is reasonably quiet, I don't have money to throw around just so the soundcard can act up and stop working after a few months of service. If my new one didn't work right, I could just keep using this one, as it does have S/PDIF which I need, a line-in and two microphone jacks aimed for a stereo mic with two plugs and some outputs for 7.1 speakers and headphones. While it does still work fine for usual things like listening to stuff or playing games, its high latency prevents it from being acceptable in terms of making music, as it apparently doesn't support ASIO. As I said before the Tascam US-20x20 interface looks alright, with its preamps, DSP-mixer, jacks that I'll need and some that I won't, however, 20 inputs and 20 outputs seem a bit much, as I wouldn't really need half as many, though their smaller ones don't support S/PDIF and aren't USB 3.0. I'm not certain how much all of that really matters for a good quality recording, USB 3.0 is supposed to have lower latencies and enables people to have higher frequencies and sampling rates, preamps are said to be the key for high quality recordings, but I'm really not sure how important all of this is, so if anyone could shed some light on that matter, it would be greatly appreciated.
