I like the idea of customization as well. I think that should be a key feature for an accessibility overlay. Especially the ability to be scripted as well.
That problem you describe is what I called the "wheelchair user problem", although it's not exclusive to wheelchair users. Basically, if its possible to hire someone cheaper, companies will do it, even if grants are provided. After all, grants aren't instantaneous and often require approval as well, which holds off their employment - that encourages the view that blind people are useless... It's sad because I wonder why NVDA isn't considered an acceptable alternative, do they not meet required industry standards or something?
I hope to extend to mac and Ubuntu platforms, I need to write extensions for the TTS/screenreader for both though. I also want to eventually package the whole thing as a basic means of accessibility to 2D topdown games. I think that JRPGs and Zelda Clones would wor k best with it.
