Re: I'm kind of concerned about the culture surrounding usability
Hello.
@DracoSelene89 I think it was called web IE, it had a web browser, bbc radio program, gutenberg program and some others.
@daigonite I don't think your scripting idea would work.
Keep in mind I have a very limited understanding of scripting.
Having said that, here are what I think would go wrong:
It wouldn't be able to handle alt text very well, unless you use machine learning and that can be quite buggy.
It might have problems with labeling links/headings/frames.
What happens when new accessibility standards come out?
New ARIA ways of doing things?
New HTML and CSS?
Would your script be able to handle all that?
This is why I prefer to put accessibility in myself.
When putting in the accessibility yourself you would know what you're doing.
For example; I can put an alt tag that says Brad sitting on a bed, but your script would not be able to do that, unles it somehow knew who Brad w as and where he was sitting. Do you se what i'm getting at?
As for older people learning computers, there is already a program from dolphin called guide that does that.
I don't like it because it limits you to a couple of programs.
In doing that it might make the older person think they cannot use that software because it's not on guide.
I think the older person should try to learn the screen reader if they can.
If they cannot, then try guide. It will allow them to send email, scan documents, use a calinder, and I think they have a web browser but I'm not sure.
Could you show me some of these silly UX peoples articles? I've not come across them, I don't read much about disability and or blindness.
Oh and if you don't mind me asking, do you have a disability and have you tried a screen reader?
