See, here's the thing. If you have a class of fifteen people, and they're all at different vision levels, and they all have varying ability to use that vision, then that means you have to cater to fifteen individual cases, where you may not be able to meet the specific needs of everyone.
If you put sleep shades on everyone with usable vision, however, you're levelling them off to the same denominator, so to speak. It's not punishment. They are specifically trying to teach you how to use your sense of touch and hearing and whatever else. The things they teach do not need vision, and can be counted on if and when your vision goes away. It might be upsetting, especially at first, but the idea here is to get the most amount of progress, and on that level I think, it probably works more than it doesn't.
To analogize again, let's say that at your college, which you signed up to willingly, you quickly realized that some classes allowed for open-book multiple-choice exams, while other classes demanded that you study and have no aids at all. What you're doing, in my estimation at least, is getting upset that the NFB training centers are telling you that you can't bring in outside aids. Nobody can. That's not a punishment, it's just their way of teaching. Maybe they feel that to bring in outside study aids kinda defeats the purpose of what they're doing.
