Depending on the flexibility of your items, it would be better to store the information about the clip/magazine in that actual item, so you could drop your magazine when it's half full, load it with a full one, and then eventually load that half full one back in at some point. Storing the information as a part of the weapon is also alright, but decreases from the realism. Also a way of representing recoil would be nice.
