you can have all espeak voices shown including its variants, though you have to modify the speech.conf file for ESpeak itself first.
As for other voices, ya can get the RH Voices from here
You can also get Cepstral Voices for Linux too, though I think they cost between $10 and $35 depending on the voice.

Thanks for the info about LXDE becoming more accessible now. I'll be trying both Lubuntu and ADRIANE - Knoppix, in VM's later on.

Mate on any system is a blast to use, it is just a fun desktop! Not that GNOME is bad or anything...
KDE is "slowly" coming along, though it still ain't some work in places.
