Lol, it leaves a couple of plot holes rather in the way that the deathstar's laser left a couple of holes in Leya's home planet :d.
I think for me the major question I have had since Force awakens began, is what exactly was the bloody point of spending the last six films seeing the destruction of the galactic empire if it's so easy for someone to just make another one? Even more so if Palpatine got back.
indeed, if Luke's world weary attitude in the last Jedi had been basically because his entire struggle was completely pointless, rather than because he randomly almost killed a child for no reason, then left all his friends to die, I would've been mostly on board with that.
Again, there are many things that could've been done with a starwars sequel, but in trying to tell literally the same story, they virtually invalidated the first one.
needless to say I am not exactly sorry that Disney have declared this the final starwars film, indeed I am getting so sick of cruddy cash in remakes and franchise tie ins!
Frankly, at this point I'd just love to see a good new story told by people who want to tell it.
