Re: Gaging interest in a space MMO like death match a new beginning
@16 it's not uncommon for space based games, even those that have you in a civilian setting, to include a war between several factions and for those factions to provide a way for civis to help fight in their name. Even star conquest, which draws a pretty hard line where a pilot's behavior is concerned, allows you to repell invasions and do ground missions. Although to add realism, you could first have to join a navy of some kind. I particularly liked the way smugglers 5 does it. As a civi you can contribute to the war by making lots of money and investing it into war bonds which let your faction buy stuff with them, so the more money you sink into them, the higher the effect you will have on the war. If you want to fight, you either have to enlist in your faction's navy or choose a starting profession that already starts in the military. for this game however, it probably wouldn't be very feezable to have a system of war bonds, especially if there are multiple factions a player can join. I guess the best thing we could do for such a system is to handwave it entirely and say that anyone who fights for anyone else is doing mercinary duty or something.
