Re: Petition to Nintendo to include access to the 3DS system
I really, really, really hate to be that guy, but I won't be signing this.
The logic is all wrong on how to approach this. First, we are not dealing with a freeware game developer who can insert just a small change to allow more people to use his or her program, your dealing with an international business. And honestly, businesses can careless about the disabled as they were trucking along fine without blind players, and blind players still purchase the consoles, but in small numbers. Not only that, unlike the computers, or other devices meant for multi-purpose use, a console is meant to mainly play games, so it us stuck under a specific market with a much more limited customer base.
How to Approach this more effectively.
Instead of making a petition on how to make the 3DS more accessible, make one that aims more towards how this will make Nintendo more money. the 3DS is already a product out there, that would have issues trying to sink up with newer handhelds that were made accessible. So with the many burdens of making this all sink together, you need to explain on how even with all the problems that can arise, how making a more accessible interface will lead to more profits, as it takes money to do everything the company does, and if making accessible interfaces will cost them money, frankly they'll just happily tell you that it is not currently possible for so and so reason.
Actually, the petition would end up looking more like a research analysis on costs of software and hardware changes, and the effects on profits, that is signed by a few thousand people, as well as a few professionals.
Just asking for something to be accessible for the sake of being able to play game is a poor way to try to get change across with an entity like a business. An individual is a lot easier to deal with then an intire coorperation. You have to speak the language of the executives, and all other levels of Nintendo, and need to explain how this makes money, not how this would be good. The key word here is making money, as that is the basic lifesource of all businesses to evolve and transform. If this was not the case, we would already have an accessible console and handheld by now.
