If you dont care about 3d then my suggestion is the 2ds xl. If you dont care about stereo speakers because you're only going to use headphones then I recommend the 2ds. It's probably going to be the cheapest model available. Otherwise I have not tried the 3ds xl or new 3ds xl, but I prefer the speaker positions on the regular 3ds over that of the 2ds xl because they are on the top and facing you, whereas the 2ds xl speakers are on the bottom of the console and facing at an angle. Still they are pretty decent quality.
